Travelling with my baby girl on a plane is one of my concerns during my baby’s first visit to her pediatrician. I am aware that riding airplane could cause ear pressure, and I am totally concern if what is the effect of it to my baby. So I ask my baby’s pediatrician about it, and the pediatrician told me to at least wait for a month before I travel with my baby on a plane.
The pediatrician told me to let my baby suck something during take-off and landing of the plane, to let her jaw move and eventually release ear pressure.
I decided to travel her when she was 2 months old – one month more than the age of what her pediatrician told me to be safer. I choose a direct flight airplane from Davao to Singapore to avoid the hassle of a connecting flight. Airline companies usually allow at least more than 7 days old baby to travel on a plane. You must always check airline policy when carrying a newborn baby.
Davao City to Singapore is almost a 4 hours trip. So, I prepare enough milk and a pacifier for my baby to suck during take-off and landing… just in case if she is not feeding. It is difficult to wake up newborn baby, if they are so sleepy… So I keep on tickling her feet and talk to her during take-off and landing so that my baby can suck and release the pressure.
Finally, we arrived in Singapore!!! My baby is fine throughout the travel… So far, my baby girl ears are perfectly okay, and I haven’t encountered any ear problem.
