As I carry my 1 month old baby, I noticed some thick flakes that look like dandruff in her scalp. It seems like it doesn’t disturb her, but it destructs my eyesight that gives me an impression that her scalp is not clean. I have given her daily bath so I was annoyed if what it causes and try to ask those who experienced similar stuff and seek a remedy advice…

I seek professional advice with the dandruff/flake problem. I learned that this is common in newborn babies. It is usually called as cradle cap due to too much produce of oil seborrhea glands. The only assurance is not to worry too much unless it is widely spread in most part of the baby’s body and if it causes inconvenience to the baby…

Still proper cleaning/bathing was advised.

So here’s the steps that I did to treat my baby’s dandruff or scalp flakes:

  1. I spread a small amount of petroleum jelly to the concerned area and leave it for 5 minutes. (You can also use baby oil, but since I do not have one, I just use the petroleum jelly, the role of oil or jelly is to soften the scalp for easy brushing)
  2. I get a very soft brush and started brushing her scalp to loosen the flakes. I gently do it since my baby’s scalp is very soft and sensitive.I am afraid that she will be wounded or hurt.

This is the photo below after brushing her scalp:

The flakes are now loosen

       3. I wash my baby’s hair, put a baby shampoo and gently massage her scalp.

        4. I dry it with a soft towel.

The process really helps in removing the flakes that look like dandruff to me…

My baby’s scalp is even better now and it looks hygienically clean.

Mommy’s in case you see too many flakes in the major parts of your baby’s skin, it is still better to consult your doctors so that they could recommend proper treatment.
