Following the instructions in making milk formula is important. It is also indicated in every milk container to use only the indicated number of scoop for each ounce that you mix with water. This is to ensure that the baby will meet the nutritional requirements that she needed every day. However, what kind of specific water is best for our babies in mixing their milk formula?
I personally use Dr. Edwards Sterilized Drinking water during my baby’s early stage but as her milk demand increase, I changed to boiled water.
Frequently buying of ready sterilized bottled water is costly. I just take tap water and boil it then let it cool down. You must let the boiled water to be cooled to about body temperature before adding powder to maintain the number of living cultures in the milk. If you are travelling and unsure of the tap water quality of your place then, you might consider buying bottled water and boiled it.
Can I use mineral water when preparing my baby’s milk formula?
Mineral water is not recommended in the preparation of milk formula. It contains some minerals that the baby does not need. Your baby’s milk is already a correct balance of minerals that your baby needed and adding additional content in the form of mineral water can agitate the balance.
Some of my colleagues preferred to buy bottled distilled water from a known brand for easy preparation.
‘.. i used wilkins, is it safe?
Wilkins is a distilled water, so I believe it’s fine… However, I also ask my pedia before regarding wilkins, but he replied back that it is still better to boiled even bottled water. But, I knew friends using Wilkins, so far they haven’t encounter any problem.
‘.. do you have any suggestions or advice since my baby has “halak” or gurgly… tnx..
The first time I heard my baby gurgly “halak”, I consulted pedia because I thought it’s some kind of a runny nose problem or cough. My pedia check my baby and find nothing and said to me that it is common for most babies. The pedia said that the reason my baby is gurgly that time is because of her milk, pass near her nose and throat which create sounds. As time goes by, I seldom hear my baby gurgling because whenever I’m done feeding her, I put her in upright or upper body elevated position and I see to it that I tap her back gently and that she is properly burp. But of course, it is case to case basis. Much better to consult pediatrician to make sure why your baby has “halak”.
